Today the 165th Corps of Cadets marched in honor of the late Paul Dwayne Blevins, a former Cadet 1SG who passed unexpectedly in November 1992 while he was studying at ORMA. Since 1995, ORMA has held the Blevins' Day Parade to remember the lost Cadet, and to honor the Cadet 1SG who exemplifies the leadership traits of Paul Dwayne Blevins.

Congratulations to Jack Davenport, the recipient of this year's Blevins' Award.

Special thanks to Ashley Underhill (Miss Eastern Carolinas) for returning to ORMA this morning to share with Cadets in Chapel. Losing her 16 year old brother, when she was 19, led Ashley to found Choices for Chase to help young people learn to think long-term when making choices.

Oak Ridge Military Academy has a beautiful campus! The historical Alumni Hall stands out nicely among the blooming trees in the spring. But the most beautiful part of the campus is the faculty, staff and students that make this campus a home.

An brisk early spring morning walk around campus is one of the finer things I believe a person can experience.

The pipes are certainly old, and the dining hall has not been featured on Diners, Drive-In's and Dives. But Oak Ridge provides a sound college-prep education, coupled with a student-led leadership development program. If you are looking to develop character in your son or daughter, and prepare your child for college and life, Oak Ridge might be the right choice. From a personal perspective of a student who attended for six years, starting in the 7th grade, ORMA completely changed my life. The positive influences I had from teachers, administrators and fellow peers still follow me to this day. Being part of the Corps of Cadets, striving to be a motivated person of character and integrity, were the hallmarks of my personal development at Oak Ridge. Academically, ORMA prepared me very well for college. My college peers were astounded that I rarely cracked opened the books for my general classes in history, government and political science, as Oak Ridge had already covered the breadth and depth of these areas. After four and a half years of undergraduate study, I completed my bachelor's degree in communication at UNC Greensboro, and two years later, my master's degree in the same area. Looking back, I have sometimes pondered how successful and full my life would have been without Oak Ridge. It is very difficult to consider "the road not taken" objectively, with other influences and possible choices I could have made. But in my view, a universe without Oak Ridge scarcely bares worthy thought. The experiences I had at ORMA as part of its legacy, along with many others who attended, is an adventure I would never consider trading. Paul Schenk, Class of 1974, said it best of his time at Oak Ridge: "If you look around you, you will see many people you do not know. You will also see memories of past years. Believe it or not, YOU will also have memories of Oak Ridge - some good, some bad, some funny - but whichever you have, they will be your memories. Memories that you will look back on. Sometimes you will just sit for hours thinking of Oak Ridge, how great it was."

Oak Ridge is beautiful inside and out! A classic standup academy that produces young adults with bright futures. The buildings... the landscapes... past, present and future... making history real.

The photo of the cadets in formation in front of Alumni Hall is a beautiful shot and just the tip of the iceberg when it comes to the beauty of ORMA. Set on 100+ acres in the center of Oak Ridge, NC, it blends beautifully into the surrounding countryside and historic township.
